Sorano is located 378 metres above sea level, on a rocky tufo outcrop overlooking the river Lente that surrounds it on three sides.
The landscape is that of the volcanic hills of southern Tuscany, extending from Monte Amiata into the tufo of the Viterbo plains and the Tuscan Maremma.
The ancient town of Sorano always catches you unprepared and it is impossible to describe what it feels like to be suddenly faced with such a wonder.
